Durabasics Pool Stabilizer Guide

Durabasics
Liquid Pool Stabilizer & Conditioner
Durabasics Liquid Pool Stabilizer & Conditioner is designed to help raise and maintain recommended CYA levels in outdoor swimming pools.
Suitable for chlorine pools and saltwater pools.
Proper cyanuric acid levels help reduce chlorine loss from sunlight exposure and support chlorine stability during routine pool maintenance.
Test your current CYA level first (always)
Use a CYA test strip or liquid test kit before adding anything. Follow test kit instructions for accurate results, then compare to the color chart. Testing first is recommended to help avoid over-treatment — adding too much CYA is very difficult to fix and requires draining water.

For best control, add in 2 portions 24 hours apart, especially for larger adjustments. Retest after each addition. CYA does not reduce on its own quickly — lowering levels typically requires dilution (partial drain & refill).
Important: Pool volume and current water conditions may vary. Always test CYA levels before treatment and re-test after 24 hours before making additional adjustments.
Worked example
Example: 15,000 gallon inground pool, current CYA = 10 ppm, target = 40 ppm
Step 1: Need to raise by 30 ppm
Step 2: Chart says 15,000 gal / raise 30 ppm = 180 oz (1.41 gal)
Step 3: Day 1 — add 90 oz, allow water to circulate, and re-test after 24 hours.
Step 4: Day 2 — if still low, add remaining 90 oz, run pump 24 hrs, retest
Step 5: Target reached at 38–42 ppm ✓
How to add it correctly
-
1
Shake vigorously for 30 seconds before each use Shake the jug well every time before pouring. If product feels thick or hard to pour, place the closed jug in warm water for 5 minutes, then shake again. This is normal, not a defect.
-
2
Pour slowly near a return jet with pump running With your circulation pump running, pour slowly near a return jet so water distributes the product evenly. Do not add to chlorinators or floaters.
-
3
Run pump for at least 24 hours to ensure even distribution Keep your pump running for at least 24 hours after adding.
-
4
Retest after 24 hours — add second dose only if needed Retest CYA with your test strip. If still below 30 ppm, add the second half of your calculated dose. Retest again after another 24 hours. Stop adding once you reach 30–50 ppm (chlorine pools) or 60–80 ppm (saltwater pools).
When to add CYA stabilizer
Opening your pool for the season
Always test CYA at opening. Winter rain and water top-ups dilute stabilizer. Most outdoor pools need a dose at the start of every swim season.
Chlorine disappearing too fast in summer
If chlorine burns off within hours on sunny days, low CYA is the most likely cause. Test first to confirm, then dose accordingly.
After heavy rain or partial drain & refill
Any time more than 20% of your pool water is replaced, CYA is diluted proportionally. Retest and top up as needed.
Monthly check during outdoor swim season
Test once a month. Outdoor pools lose CYA gradually through splash-out and water top-ups over summer.
Do NOT add if CYA is already 50 ppm or above
High CYA neutralizes chlorine effectiveness. The only solution is to partially drain and refill with fresh water. Adding more stabilizer will make the problem worse.
Do NOT use in indoor pools, hot tubs, or spas
CYA only protects chlorine from UV sunlight degradation. Indoor pools and spas have no sun exposure and do not need or benefit from CYA stabilizer.
